Overview Here is your chance to join a growing British Columbia technology firm focused on using technology ethically and equitably to create a better future for cities, organizations, and citizens.

Vivacity Technologies (www.vvctec.com) is a technology company based out of Kamloops, BC, and we provide digital and security infrastructure to a number of awesome clients across North America. With digital infrastructure, we work a lot with municipalities on projects such as data centre builds and fibre network expansions. With security infrastructure, we offer a Public Key Infrastructure platform which helps secure highly sensitive wireless networks against the ever evolving cyber threats landscape of today. We also occasionally take on IT consulting projects, which allow us to support some really cool clients (like the awesome Big Bear Youth Advocacy Centre) while helping us fund product development!

In addition to the projects above, we’ve recently started branching into the intelligent cities and living labs space. Our goal is to put our technology expertise to work in a way that helps create better and more livable communities for everyone. This is a big reason why we’re looking for people like you to help shape and achieve our vision!

What we’re looking for We’re looking for someone who has strong back end software development skills to support our product development in the long-term. Due to the nature of our business, the ideal candidate will also be eager to learn about other areas of what we do and support us in achieving our goals. Our skills wish list is as follows:

  • Eagerness to learn and grow a broad technology skill set;

  • Understanding of front-end software concepts and frameworks;

  • Strong ability to design and develop effective back-end services;

  • Ability to propose and implement software architecture changes;

  • Knowledge of infrastructure (containers, VMs, hypervisors);

  • Experience with high-level programming languages such as Java;

  • Experience with scripting languages such as Python and JavaScript;

  • Strong communication skills in English, both written and spoken;

What you’ll get Working with the Vivacity team will be fun, and will also expose you to different aspects of delivering on projects and running a company. We hope to offer you:

  • Work with a growing hybrid team to establish and grow one of BC’s newest technology firms;

  • Insights into starting and growing a company, from a management team with significant experience in entrepreneurship;

  • Challenging work, so you can learn and grow, while honing your skills;

  • An exceptionally safe and supportive work environment, including as much mentorship and guidance as you want to support your growth;

  • The ability to shape the direction, vision and environment of a company, working closely with the CEO;

  • Flexible working hours, with the ability to work from home 100% of the time;

  • Unlimited vacation policy, and participation on other employee benefit plans (such as stock options) as they are implemented.

We’d love to hear from you if you:

  • Are eager to be exposed to a broad range of technologies and areas of a growing company;

  • Have a passion for lifelong learning and using technology to make the world a better place;

  • Can work both independently and as part of a team, taking initiative and helping support collective goals;

  • Are comfortable challenging the ideas of others as well as bringing your own ideas to be challenged within a respectful, safe environment;

  • Have had at least 3 years of experience building, shipping, and maintaining full-stack software, preferably in a B2B setting;

  • Get genuinely excited about learning new technologies and leveraging the opportunities they bring to help shape the future of our communities;

  • Enjoy the process of bringing new ideas to life through inception, research, development, deployment, and continuous improvement;

  • Think of programming languages and frameworks as tools, with the ability to identify, learn, and apply the best one for each application.
