Vivacity Technologies Secures $100,000 of NRC IRAP Funding to Support R&D Activities

Updated: Aug 9, 2023

June 7th 2022, Kamloops, BC - Vivacity Technologies Ltd., a trusted technology partner focused on IT consultancy services and helping firms deploy digital and security infrastructure, today announced the successful completion of funding through the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC IRAP). Vivacity Technologies has been awarded $100,000 to support research and development in the Public Key Infrastructure space, focused on authenticating device identities and providing the technological foundation for securing end devices against cyber security threats.

"Vivacity Technologies was born from the idea that small and mid-size organizations should benefit from the same level of support as larger firms, including IT consulting services and the design, deployment and management of security infrastructure,” said George Emery, CEO of Vivacity Technologies. “With this funding from the NRC IRAP we’re in a great position to become innovators in this space and deliver solutions that will help secure end devices across the world.”

The Vivacity Technologies NRC IRAP project will initially be focused on researching the needs of IoT, IIoT, and wireless telecommunications devices. As a second phase, a proof-of-concept Certification Authority (CA) will be developed to support different certificate formats and architectures, and expose a RESTful API for device enrollment and certificate validation. Securing machine identities is particularly important in industries such as wireless telecommunications, IoT, and IIoT, where devices are deployed and expected to perform their duties with minimal human intervention. In order to securely operate devices and assert that the operations being performed are authentic and non-repudiable, organizations have historically used public key cryptography. Vivacity Technologies will use the NRC IRAP project to develop a lower cost, highly secure, computationally efficient and more convenient public key infrastructure solutions for small and mid-size organizations.

“This is extremely exciting for the Vivacity team, as the NRC IRAP project allows us to undertake a deep dive into a highly relevant and growing industry”, said Stefano Stamato, Technical Product Manager for Vivacity Technologies. “In addition, we’ll use this funding to expand the Vivacity Technologies team, while giving us the opportunity to develop new and innovative products. Exciting times ahead!”
