VivaScoop - February 2024

The VivaScoop header

Welcome to VivaScoop, your monthly rundown of everything Vivacity Technologies.

The month of February marks the final sprint to spring! Although, if you've been living near a ski mountain recently, then you've probably been experiencing spring for a few months now. On one hand, longer days are just around the corner, but I can honestly say I'm going miss snowboarding, (ice) hockey, and all that Canadian winters bring.

Beyond the winter activities, the VivaTeam have been busying away with product development, supporting our awesome clients, and getting into a new groove as the team continues to expand. So without further ado, herewith is VivaScoop February!

Piloting VivaCitadel with the City of Kelowna

Big things are happening on the VivaCitadel front. The engineering team has been busy at work on the pilot program for VivaCitadel with the City of Kelowna. The journey began with extensive research into potential use cases where a new system could add value to an established process. After identifying that the manual effort for requesting property information was a good candidate for modernization, the team completed business process mapping with Kelowna to understand the process of receiving and completing requests and potential areas for improvement. Based on this research, the engineering team has been iteratively building out our solution with the help of Kelowna’s team, and the first version of VivaCitadel set to go live at the end of March!

In addition to our progress with the City of Kelowna, we’ve been working behind the scenes to streamline everything for VivaCitadel, bringing it all into one place. Thanks to the hard work of Stefano Stamato and Cassandra Roberge, VivaCitadel now has its very own website and LinkedIn page! Feel free to check them out and follow our new LinkedIn page for all things VivaCitadel.

vCIO Case Study with Simpcw Resources Group

Vivacity has been working with Simpcw Resources Group (SRG) since April of 2022, and has been contracted as their virtual Chief Information Officer (vCIO) since August of the same year. We’ve implemented a range of IT projects with SRG over the last 19 months, and their organization has made significant progress in building out, securing, and bolstering their IT environment.

Because of this tremendous progress, we decided now would be a good time to put together a case study about the work that we have done together. Coming soon is an overview of why they reached out to Vivacity Technologies, and the work that we have done together since April 2022. So stay tuned for the case study release, as we lift the lid on turning IT from a pain point to a strategic partner for the organization.

CDL Session #2 Meet the Mentors

At the end of January, Stefano Stamato and I went to Vancouver to participate in the second session of the CDL compute stream for 2024. At each session, participating organizations must secure mentors in order to continue progressing through the program. The mentors we secure each round help guide our progress until the next session. During the event, Vivacity was lucky enough to secure another three hand raises in session #2. As such, we’d like to take a moment to introduce you to our round 2 mentors:

Aaron Brindle: New to mentoring Vivacity for session 2, Aaron is a Partner at Radical Ventures, an AI-focused venture capital firm. Prior to his work with Radical Ventures, Aaron served as Head of Public Affairs at Google Canada. Aaron sits on the board of the Canadian Journalism Foundation and is our lead mentor from session 2

Peter Lukomskyj: Returning as a mentor from session 1, Peter is the former Managing Director for Lyft in Canada. Peter is a Professional Engineer and CPA who has a passion for bringing innovation and lean operation efforts to businesses

Amin Yazdani Salekdeh: New to mentor Vivacity for session 2, Amin is the co-founder and CEO of Craver Solutions, as well as the Founder and CTO of VerifyIQ. Amin has over 15 years of experience with developing software solutions in Machine Learning, AI, and Business Intelligence.

The VivaTeam is thrilled to work with our new mentors, and to see where they help us direct VivaCitadel in the next quarter.

That's a wrap on the VivaCitadel podcast series...for now

Six months ago, we launched the first episode of the VivaCitadel Mini Podcast Series. This mini series was pitched by our Technical Business Analyst, Sheikh Farzin Rahman, as a way for us to start to spread the word about the new product we were developing and show people a bit about what the process was like. We loved the idea. However, it quickly evolved into much more than that. When the team started planning for the series, we quickly realized that we wanted it to be about more than just developing VivaCitadel. We wanted the podcast series to show everyone who we were as a company, and highlight a bit more about what it means to be a start-up in this industry. But even more, we wanted this mini podcast series to be a moment in time that we could look back on in the future and see how we’ve grown and changed as an organization.

In the 6 months since we launched this series we’ve already seen a lot of that growth and change, however, on February 13th we launched the 8th and final episode of the podcast. Given this, we wanted it to have a proper send off. If you enjoyed it as much as we did, you can find the extended versions of each episode on our youtube channel. Keep an eye out for more new and exciting content in the future!
